Geneseo Public Library is open now, and this month’s art features Shirley Burnett and Debbie Beyerlein. Check it out (pun intended)!
Art While We Shelter At Home
With instructions to stay home during the Covid-19 outbreak, we’re using this opportunity to keep our hands and minds busy with art. Some of our members are doing a painting a day (kudos, Debbie Beyerlein!), and others are drawing, painting, and Photoshopping (has that become a word now?) as they can. Here are some of our efforts.
Amazing Southern Asia Exhibit at the gallery!
Brenda Yager is a Geneseo native who has traveled around the world and has generously brought hundreds of photos and art objects from a recent trip to Southern Asia, including Viet Nam, Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, and other countries in the vicinity.
The opening reception will be held this Sunday, March 15, from 2:00-4:30 and will continue through April 3. We would like to invite you to join us for this outstanding experience. Brenda will be present on Sunday to tell some of her experiences, and I know you would find her and her exhibit informative, beautiful, and historical.
Please come, and feel free to extend this invitation to anyone else who might be interested.
Art at the Geneseo Public Library
Art at the Geneseo Library is something different this month - the fun abstracts of Kris Love. Kris is from Geneseo and has been painting for about 20 years. The display will be at the library until the end of March.
Refreshing The Gallery
January, the month of new beginnings, sees us adding lots of new art. We also moved artists around so each gets to experience a new location and different light. The artist locations will stay the same for a while, but each artist changes out his/her work monthly. So come by often!
Art at the Geneseo Public Library
Pauline Swanson, founding member of RutabagA and long time artist, is shown with a small example of her vibrant oil paintings on display during the month of January at the Geneseo Library.
November Art at the Geneseo Library
This month’s art honors our veterans. Sharon Michaelsen’s sensitive pastel portraits depict some of our local military members. More portraits are featured in our gallery window downtown.
September art at the Geneseo Library
The September art exhibit at the Geneseo Public Library brings the viewer an early glimpse of Fall's glorious colors. The watercolor paintings by RutabagA member, Karen Rae Vroman, from Erie, IL will joyfully warm your heart. More works by this award winning artist, as well as other area artists, may be seen on the "Rutabaga Art" Facebook page or on their website, or by visiting the RutabagA Studio and Gallery at 108 N. State St. in Geneseo, IL.
Two Great Classes Coming Up This Month!
On Saturday, Aug. 24, join us for a class in painting your own mandala. A mandala is simply a symmetrical pattern, and has been very meaningful to various cultures for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of years. We teach you to start your own, and the sky’s the limit as to how far you want to develop it.
Then on Saturday, Aug. 31, we will explore drawing, painting, and writing your thoughts and impressions in your own journal/sketchbook. You do NOT have to know how to draw! We want to emphasize this, because the practice of journaling and sketching your thoughts is meant to be stress-relieving, not stress-creating. Your journal is your very own expressive place, and only has to please you. You don’t have to share it and you certainly won’t be judged on it. We are here to help you get started, and provide inspiration and guidance for your creative journey.
See the details of both these classes in our August calendar of upcoming events. Please join us!
April exhibit of Holocaust Memorial Artwork
The "Holocaust Memorial Visual Art Contest" exhibit will be at the Rutabaga Art studio/gallery at 108 N. State St. in Geneseo, IL from April 23 to May 1. Stop in to see what these 23 Quad Cities high school students, and 2 foreign exchange students have depicted about the Holocaust and their reasons why they chose to paint or draw what they did.
Rutabaga will host a reception for the artists and the public on Saturday, April 27, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. All are welcome!
